Develop your knowledge and understanding of hypoadrenocorticism in ferrets. This is a one-part course that can also be taken as part of the Endocrine conditions course bundle.

This module looks at pathogenesis, diagnosis, treatment, prevention and outcomes of hypoadrenocorticism in ferrets, including:
Cause – a complication of (sub)total bilateral adrenalectomy or following treatment with mitotane in ferrets with hyperadrenocorticism.
Signs – lethargy, anorexia, weakness, shock.
Diagnosis – serum electrolyte evaluation, ACTH stimulation test.
Treatment – supplementation with glucocorticoids and mineralocorticoids.
Prognosis – fair if diagnosed early; poor if severe electrolyte abnormalities present.
