Develop your knowledge and understanding of emergency resuscitation in horses. This is a one-part course that can also be taken as part of the Equine critical care course bundle.

This module looks at causes of cardiopulmonary emergencies in the equine patient, identifying and performing emergency resuscitation, conclusion and other conditions requiring emergency resuscitation, including:
Causes of cardiopulmonary emergencies in the equine patient – drugs and idiosyncratic reactions, inadvertent intracarotid injection, anesthetic complications, pulmonary disease, airway obstruction during anesthetic, cardiovascular abnormalities, acid base abnormalities and other.
Identifying and performing emergency resuscitation – signs of imminent need for resuscitation, ABCD, common findings prior to and during arrest, severe bradycardia, asystole/sinus arrest, electromechanical dissociation, ventricular fibrillation, ventricular tachycardia, supportive therapy, successful resuscitation.
Other conditions requiring emergency resuscitation – malignant hyperthermia-like situations and hyperkalemic periodic paralysis.
